"Asthma is a chronic lung disorder of enormous public health importance that affects 10 to 12% of the population and disproportionately affects children, minorities, and persons of lower socioeconomic status. ASTHMA is a chronic inflammatory lung disorder which narrows and sometimes blocks the airways. "Extrinsic asthma" is caused by allergic reactions to proteins originating from cockroaches, mold, pets, and dust mites. A second, non-allergic form of asthma ("intrinsic asthma") is triggered by anxiety, stress, exercise, cold or dry air, hyperventilation, smoke viruses, and other irritants.
